The visionary game developer, who helped create the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a car accident in California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The renowned industry figure lost his life when his automobile collided and caught fire on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, as reported by.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's family, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
