The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

All that said, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
