The January transfer market is always a period of significant rumour and potential major transfers. A number of notable players are being linked with transfers away from their current clubs. Here is a look at some of the key figures who might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON, this has kept the forward available, reports suggest a significant transfer is imminent. The 25-year-old has a contract with a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a short period at the start of the month. Recent reports point to the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative targets, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

The England defender has excel for Palace despite a summer move to Anfield collapsing. With his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the club's final chance to secure a fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, such as Manchester City and multiple European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January departure remains difficult, particularly given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Although being the side's top scorer last season, he has begun just a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

Rúben Neves

This Portuguese playmaker might be set for a return to the Premier League following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just twenty-eight, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barcelona following the coach Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter departure looks highly probable. Aston Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of the continent's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the Under-19 European Championship, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. The teenager is heavily expected to make a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
