Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session. The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight. The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
