American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup competitions. The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result. Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere Racing in the iconic venue for the first time in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking the runner-up spot. "I was slightly lacking enough direction on the initial jump," the skier commented. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious." This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are timely. She has an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games. "At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a career spanning two decades. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
