Fury Erupts as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Rob Reiner Draws Sharp Rebuke

Figures from across the political divide and the Hollywood world are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his comments in the wake of the shocking passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood home, Trump posted on social media to label the deceased director as "anguished and struggling". In a post, he claimed Reiner's demise was "because of the hostility he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Detention

Police have since announced the arrest of the couple's adult son, Nick, on charges related to murder in connection with the case. It is reported his bond was established at a significant sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

“What a disgusting and despicable comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the statements. Goldberg pointed to previous comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, asking, "Do you have no decency? Can you get any lower?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this sentiment, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now saying Rob and Michele Reiner brought on their own demise because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

Some Republican elected officials also voiced dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". She also alluded to challenges with addiction and mental health within families.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the circumstances. He openly challenged members in his party to justify the comments.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also cautioned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump be reelected to power.

"We see authoritarianism making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Despite his strong opposition, Reiner had in the past shown "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation after the killing of another individual.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the story of the session, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a high-rise with a view of Central Park.
