đ Share this article D.Va's Boosters Establish Her as the Ultimate Flying Tank For a long time, I was not a fan of multiplayer games. I engaged in numerous of them with companions, but few held my interest. My aim was poor, and seemed more a liability than aid to my squad. Subsequently, the release of Overwatch in 2016 arrived and presented me with a character and an skill that's been stuck in my mind ever since. Initially, D.Va, a gamer girl turned child-soldier who pilots a mech, didnât seem the type that should have appealed to me. Widowmaker was closer to my preference, with her dark aesthetic and measured speech. But D.Va possessed the advantage of being the role I prefer: a tank. The one who soaks up all that incoming fire while protecting damage-dealers and support classes. Better yet, D.Va has dual modes: her pilot form, in which she moves with a blaster, and her MEKA configuration, in which sheâs seated within her MEKA. These two forms make her pretty unique, but another feature that sets her apart among other defenders, and is the reason I inevitably fell in love: her melee and movement ability, Thrusters. Thrusters represent a skill that enables the MEKA pilot (in her MEKA form) propel skyward, providing a velocity increase and allowing her to fly forward for 24 meters. But you can also change directions mid-flight, choosing to ascend onto a higher level or veer entirely and head around obstacles like turns or the objective. This grants D.Va a agility and unrestricted motion that no other defender can really replicate â not even Reinhardt with his charge ability. D.Vaâs Boosters is ideal for my approach: I like to soak up the damage and defend allies, while having the option to retreat if it gets gnarly so I can regroup â it creates a sense of invincibility, even though this isn't entirely true. The Thrusters ability is not just for movility; it additionally deals harm to foes along the route. Thereâs even a damage element to D.Vaâs Boosters ability. When opponents obstruct the path as youâre using Boosters, you send them flying backwards for a set amount of harm. Let me tell you, few things are as gratifying than finishing off a pesky Ashe by bopping her on the nose with your MEKA. That serves as a lesson to try and snipe you from afar. D.Va may not be the âbestâ tank in Overwatch 2 currently, especially when youâve got heroes like Orisa and Ramattra whose pure defensive skills make them a superior choice for the current meta. But sheâs also one of the most unique characters I have experienced in a competitive title. It seems unlikely there really is a direct counterpart to D.Va, and believe me, following experiences like Marvel Rivals after falling off Overwatch 2, Iâve been looking for a replacement for D.Va, and my next Boosters, for years. In reality, with extensive time as her, I feel like no future tank character as fun and innovative to play as D.Va. For all the faults Overwatch 2 might have, hero creation and skills are certainly not among them. D.Va excels in mobility and disruption. Her Thrusters provide unmatched aerial control. The hero can soak damage while creating opportunities for allies. Regardless of strategy changes, she remains a beloved choice for her unique playstyle.
