Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect behind a series of unforgettable images associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
